Governor Alia: My Administration Inherited Fragile Security from Ortom, but We’re Fixing It

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has disclosed that his administration inherited a fragile and volatile security landscape from his predecessor, Samuel Ortom. The revelation came during the celebration of his second anniversary in office, held on Thursday at the IBB Square in Makurdi.

Addressing a large crowd of supporters, government officials, and traditional leaders, Governor Alia reflected on the dire state of security when he assumed office.

“Although we inherited a fragile security situation, we have taken bold steps towards restoring the safety of lives and property, as well as maintaining law and order,” he said.

Highlighting his government’s response, Governor Alia pointed to the creation of Operation Anyam Nyôr, a state-supported security outfit designed to tackle the persistent threats posed by armed herders, bandits, and criminal gangs across Benue.

According to the Governor, his administration has also equipped security agencies with essential tools to bolster their effectiveness.

“We have distributed Hilux vans, motorcycles, and other security vehicles to both conventional and local law enforcement agencies to strengthen their ability to respond swiftly and decisively to threats,” he stated.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of Benue citizens, Alia issued a stern warning to those involved in criminal activities.

“Let me assure you that we are on the trail of the terrorists, armed herders, and bandits terrorizing some parts of our state. Very soon, we will decimate them and all other criminal syndicates,” he vowed, drawing applause from the audience.

As his administration marks two years in office, Governor Alia’s remarks underscore a central theme of his tenure: a strong, sustained push for improved security and law enforcement across the state.
