Three Senators Defect Back to APC During National Assembly Plenary

In a significant political development during Tuesday’s plenary at the National Assembly, three senators—Adamu Aliero, Yahaya A. Abdullahi, and Garba M. Maidoki—announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) back to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Deputy Senate President, who presided over the session, formally read the letters from the lawmakers, marking their return to the ruling party. He noted that the senators were merely returning to the political platform they helped establish alongside other progressive leaders.

Present to witness the high-profile return were the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; the Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris; former Kebbi State Governor, Saidu Dakingari; and several members of the House of Representatives.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and APC National Chairman Ganduje on what he described as a “monumental gain” for the party. He emphasized that the steady influx of returning and new members stands as a testament to the APC’s continued progress and the government’s positive impact on Nigerians.

The defections are expected to strengthen the APC’s presence in the Senate and may signal further political realignments in the run-up to the next election cycle.
