The Oyo State Police Command has disbursed a total of N20.12 billion to 7,076 widows of late police officers, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of fallen heroes’ families.
At the cheque presentation ceremony held at the Command Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, the Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, emphasized that the gesture reflects the unwavering dedication of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to the well-being of the dependents of deceased officers.
He assured current personnel that the Nigerian Police Force, alongside the nation, remains committed to their welfare and will not abandon them in times of need.
“To the families of our fallen heroes, we extend our heartfelt condolences,” Adenola stated. “We understand the profound challenges you face, especially the financial strain that follows the sudden loss of a loved one. While no amount can replace their lives, this support is our way of standing beside you.”
The Commissioner further reassured families awaiting payment that all outstanding entitlements would be addressed. He noted that the force has introduced a significant innovation to improve the efficiency of claims processing — the Nigerian Police Insurance Claim Management Portal.
“This state-of-the-art platform, initiated under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun, leverages technology to simplify and expedite the insurance claims process, eliminating bureaucratic delays and ensuring transparency,” Adenola said.
He also extended gratitude to the IGP for prioritizing the welfare of both active personnel and retirees, and for showing particular compassion toward the families of those who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
