In a decisive pre-dawn operation, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested three suspected cultists and armed robbers, thwarting a planned cult war along the Calabar-Itu Road corridor.
Police spokesperson DSP Timfon John disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Uyo, noting that the arrest followed credible intelligence regarding a looming clash between rival cult groups in the area.
According to the statement, the suspects—Joseph Ekeng Edet from Akon Itam and Ekon Isaiah from Ibiaku Uruan—are identified members of the Kuklux Klan secret cult. They were apprehended during a 5:00 a.m. raid on May 1, 2025, at a guest house in Ntak Inyang. A female companion, Esther Otobong Edem, was also arrested during the operation.
Items recovered from the scene include a locally made pistol, battle axe, hammer, a bottle of suspected charm, two mobile phones, two torchlights, and a black bag containing suspicious objects.
DSP John revealed that investigations are ongoing, and five victims have already identified the suspects as the culprits behind recent robberies at Urua Ekpa and School Road.
