Martins Vincent Otse, a popular Nigerian social media influencer known as VeryDarkMan, was arrested by Nigerian police in Abuja following complaints about unauthorized debits from his mother’s GTBank account. The arrest, made under the orders of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), occurred after Otse publicly voiced concerns regarding repeated charges on his mother’s account, purportedly for loan repayments she never authorized.
Barrister Deji Adeyanju, VeryDarkMan’s legal representative, confirmed the arrest, stating that police apprehended his client at Area 3, Abuja. He added, “My client, VeryDarkMan, was arrested today in Abuja by the Nigerian police. His only offence was speaking out about suspicious and repeated debits from his mother’s GTBank account for loans she never took.”
VeryDarkMan had previously raised alarm on his social media about multiple deductions from his mother’s account, sharing that they had visited a GTBank branch in Abuja to request clarification and obtain a copy of her bank statement. In his viral post, he explained, “Myself and my mom just arrived at GTBank to get an explanation for the constant debit from her account by GTBank in the name of loan repayments that she never took. In this year alone, see the amount of times she has been debited with different amounts.”
In a related event, Ariyo Ahmed Adewale accused GTBank of instigating his arrest after he staged a protest over unauthorized withdrawals exceeding ₦2 million from his account, allegedly linked to Jumia purchases he never authorized.
