A dispute over loud music led to the tragic death of a well-known Wisconsin dentist inside his apartment building. On April 19, 2025, Keionna McGowan, 27, was charged with killing her neighbor, Dr. Akintunde Bowden, after he allegedly asked her to lower her music volume. McGowan, who was listening to music in her northern Milwaukee apartment, became upset when Bowden knocked on her door, as detailed in the criminal complaint reviewed by WISN 12.
McGowan told police that she saw Bowden, 41, acting aggressively and suspected he was “intoxicated.” She allegedly opened her door and offered to turn down the music, but the situation reportedly did not calm down. McGowan claimed she closed the door, but Bowden kicked it, prompting her to retrieve a gun. She then opened the door again and fired at him when he attempted to kick the door a second time, WISN 12 reported.
McGowan was reportedly outside the Park Plaza Court apartment building shouting, “He’s in my house, number 207,” when officers from the Brown Deer Police Department arrived. They discovered Bowden lying face down at McGowan’s doorstep and pronounced him dead at the scene. The autopsy report by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Bowden died from a single gunshot wound to his lower abdomen.
On Thursday, McGowan was charged with second-degree reckless homicide with use of a dangerous weapon. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 5, according to court records.
Milwaukee Health Services expressed sorrow over Bowden’s death, stating, “Dr. Bowden’s contributions to the health and well-being of our patients and community were extremely impactful.” They praised his leadership, compassion, and vibrant personality, saying, “His Leadership, Compassion, and vibrant personality will forever remain in our hearts.”
Bowden’s brothers, Adeniji and Ogbonna, who are also dentists, described him as someone who “loved his patients” and dedicated over a decade to providing dental services to those in need. Ogbonna told CBS 58, “He always reached for people that didn’t have as much.” Adeniji added, “You know, I never thought that the last time I saw my brother would be the last time I saw my brother.”
