Stephen Ifeanyichukwu Ejezie, a former quality assurance specialist at Access Bank’s contact centre in Oniru, Lagos State, was caught secretly recording numerous videos of his colleagues in the restrooms. He was discovered in the female restroom around 1:30 am on Wednesday, according to an insider.
Sources revealed that the bank ordered his arrest after the incident, and his house was subsequently raided. However, Ejezie has since been released.
While the bank appears to have terminated his employment, some of the affected staff members feel their chances of receiving justice are slim.
When FIJ first checked his LinkedIn profile on Friday morning, his employment status as a Quality Assurance Specialist was listed as “present.” However, by the afternoon, he had updated it to reflect that he no longer worked at Access Bank.
Ejezie began his career at Access Bank in February 2023 as a contact centre agent and was promoted to Quality Assurance Specialist in October.
With his release from police custody, the contact centre staff are concerned that the bank may avoid taking legal action against Ejezie in order to protect its reputation.
“Perhaps it is because we are contract staff,” one worker speculated.
The contact centre workers, who are the backbone of Access Bank’s customer service operations, work in shifts, with some staying overnight, cleaning, and bathing at the office.
“Ejezie snuck into the ladies’ restroom. I believe he wanted to hide his camera as usual, so he noticed ladies coming and hid in one of the toilets beside the bathroom,” a source explained.
“The men’s restroom is not close enough for him to have accidentally entered the women’s.”
He was discovered when a woman, who was bathing, saw a phone recording her from a toilet cubicle next to the bathroom. She noticed someone had closed the toilet seat and was filming. After raising the alarm, others asked whoever was inside to open the door, and it was revealed that Ejezie was the culprit. He claimed he didn’t know how he ended up in the ladies’ restroom but couldn’t explain why he was recording videos.
Later that day, Ejezie was arrested when more videos were found on his devices, showing both male and female colleagues in various states of undress in the restroom.
Police raided his house the following day, Thursday, and discovered over 400 videos on his laptop.
Reports suggest that Ejezie sold the videos online.
“He has an OnlyFans account he created to sell people’s nudes and videos taken without their knowledge. They also found some he’s been selling on Telegram,” a source claimed.
One of his colleagues, describing his seemingly harmless personality, said they never would have suspected him of such actions.
“He was so cool and would always ask after people. That aside, he was an exceptional agent. No one would ever have thought this would come from him,” the former colleague remarked.
Many contact centre agents are anxious and fearful, with concerns that the bank may prioritize its reputation over their wellbeing.
“What happens to us if the videos he has already sold circulate online?” one staff member questioned.
A Friday morning meeting convened by management failed to alleviate the growing concerns.
“We were banned from staying over at work. Some people whose shifts end at 7:30 pm used to stay behind occasionally, but now it’s officially prohibited. They also warned that if an incident like this happens again, the person involved could spend years in jail,” a witness explained.
Workers say this response has only fueled suspicions that management is attempting to suppress the scandal.
“No one really has the nerve to challenge anything,” one worker said.
“We are just contact staff and not really rated. Any little thing, and you get tossed in the trash.”
Some employees featured in the videos remain unaware of their inclusion, and many are feeling the emotional toll, fearing the long-term impact of the recordings.
“They have over 400 videos, which is a lot. Many are traumatized already, and there is no support offered by the organization,” one staff member expressed.
FIJ contacted the bank on Friday, but no response had been received at press time.
