The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Iliya Damagum, has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is more divided than the PDP, insisting that the opposition remains a more stable and cohesive political force in the country.
Damagum made the statement while welcoming new members who defected from the APC and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the PDP in Nguru and Bade Local Government Areas of Yobe State.
He emphasized that the PDP has remained a formidable opposition party capable of resolving any internal disagreements through structured leadership and unity.
“If there is a crisis, we know how to solve it. We are united, and our leadership is intact,” Damagum said. “We have one chairman and one secretariat, while the ruling party cannot even hold a NEC meeting for almost two years. You can’t compare the two.”
The PDP chairman criticized the APC’s failure to convene its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for nearly two years, describing it as a sign of deep internal disarray within the ruling party.
“I don’t know why the media continues to report crises within our party,” he said, dismissing ongoing narratives of division within the PDP.
Damagum reiterated that the PDP remains the “party to beat” ahead of the 2027 general elections and confirmed that the party’s doors are open to former members and new entrants ready to build a stronger opposition.
“We are building a credible force for the future. Anyone who believes in unity, progress, and true democracy is welcome,” he concluded.
