In a decisive move to maintain governance in Rivers State, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has inaugurated a 21-member ad-hoc committee to temporarily take over legislative duties in place of the suspended Rivers State House of Assembly.
The inauguration ceremony, currently taking place at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, brought together representatives from all six geo-political zones of the country.
While addressing the committee, Speaker Abbas emphasized the importance of neutrality and service to the people, noting that the assignment transcends political affiliations.
“This task is borne out of President Bola Tinubu’s emergency proclamation. Your responsibility is to ensure good governance, peace, and progress in Rivers State. You must discharge your duties without partisanship or bias,” Abbas stated.
The committee is chaired by the House Leader, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, with Hon. Ali Isah (PDP, Gombe) serving as Deputy Chairman. Other notable members include Idris Wase (North Central), Aliyu Muktar (North East), Sada Soli (North West), Iduma Igariwey (South East), and Shehu Rijau.
Additional members include Wole Oke, Akarah Amadi, Patrick Umoh, and Isa Anka. Representative of the South West, James Faleke, was, however, absent due to unforeseen circumstances.
