Plateau Unrest: IGP Launches Full-Scale Security Operation, Deploys Tactical Teams and Surveillance Assets

ABUJA — In a decisive move to stem the rising tide of violence in Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has deployed elite counter-terrorism units, tactical squads, and cutting-edge surveillance equipment to communities ravaged by recent attacks.

This strategic intervention follows a series of brutal assaults that began on March 28, 2025, particularly in Bokkos Local Government Area and surrounding communities. The IGP’s directive aims to restore order and bring perpetrators to justice.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, “This decisive action underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to restoring peace, safeguarding lives, and ensuring that those responsible for these heinous crimes are held accountable.”

To coordinate on-ground operations, the IGP has deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Kwazhi Dali Yakubu. DIG Yakubu arrived in Plateau on Tuesday, April 8, and held a high-level meeting with the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, where he expressed the IGP’s condolences and assessed the security landscape firsthand.

The deployment package includes:

Highly trained tactical personnel

Drones for real-time aerial surveillance

Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs)

Police Mobile Force units

Helicopters

Specialized squads from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS)

These assets will be strategically positioned for swift and targeted operations in volatile areas.

The Plateau crisis has claimed dozens of lives, leaving scores injured and communities gripped by fear. During his visit, DIG Yakubu engaged with local leaders and stakeholders to explore sustainable peacebuilding strategies, emphasizing the need to address the root causes of the conflict.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to work alongside the Plateau State Government, local communities, and other security agencies to achieve enduring peace and stability.

“The Nigeria Police Force will not relent in its duty to protect lives and property,” the IGP stated. “We are resolute in our commitment to restore normalcy and uphold justice in Plateau State.”

Residents have been urged to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement by providing credible information to aid ongoing operations.
