Fenerbahçe manager José Mourinho has received a three-match ban and a fine of approximately £6,000 ($7,734.00) following an incident with Galatasaray’s coach, Okan Buruk, during the intense Istanbul derby, the Turkish Football Federation confirmed on Saturday. The altercation took place after the Turkish Cup quarter-final on Wednesday, which saw Mourinho’s team suffer a 2-1 defeat at home.
A chaotic scene unfolded post-match as a mass brawl broke out between the players, leading to three red cards—two for Galatasaray players. Following the final whistle, the 62-year-old Portuguese coach was seen grabbing Buruk’s nose, causing the Galatasaray manager to dramatically fall to the ground.
The Turkish Football Federation issued a statement saying, “Mourinho shall be banned from entering the dressing room and the bench for three official matches.” As a result, the Fenerbahçe manager will miss upcoming matches against Trabzonspor, Sivasspor, and Kayserispor.
Currently, Fenerbahçe sits in second place in the Super Lig, six points behind leaders Galatasaray, though they have a game in hand.
