In a bold move to confront persistent insecurity across rural communities, Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has announced a strategic partnership with Briech UAS Limited to deploy advanced surveillance drones for intelligence gathering and rapid response operations.
Governor Mutfwang made the announcement during the unveiling of Briech UAS-manufactured drones and missiles in Kuje, Federal Capital Territory, where he was joined by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher G. Musa. The governor described the initiative as a critical step toward modernizing security infrastructure in Plateau State.

“This partnership marks a fresh, innovative approach to security. With the deployment of Briech UAS facilities, we are already seeing improvements in operational efficiency on the ground,” Mutfwang stated. “Our ultimate goal is to restore peace and create safe conditions for our farmers to return to their fields.”
He praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their ongoing efforts in protecting lives and property, adding that the use of advanced technology would complement their work and strengthen Plateau’s position as the “Home of Peace and Tourism.”
Governor Mutfwang expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his support and urged the military to promote homegrown defense technology. “We must empower local manufacturers to develop military-grade equipment suited to our specific security needs,” he said.
The newly acquired drones are expected to boost real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities, significantly enhancing the effectiveness of security personnel in rural areas. Mutfwang affirmed that the technology would be vital in tackling threats and deterring criminal elements disrupting community safety and economic activities.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Musa, commended the initiative, calling it a milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward self-reliance in defense technology. “Briech UAS has set the pace with locally manufactured attack drones. These innovations will provide critical support to our forces in responding swiftly to threats,” he said.
Dr. Bright Echefu, Chairman of Briech Group, highlighted the importance of homegrown solutions, noting that their drones are tailored specifically to Nigeria’s terrain and security challenges. “Our UAVs are equipped with advanced sensors for day-and-night operations, capable of providing real-time intelligence that ensures proactive threat detection,” he said.
With this initiative, Plateau State is expected to become a model for tech-driven security solutions, as authorities work to reclaim peace and ensure safety in vulnerable communities.
