Wike Debunks Health Rumors, Says ‘I Didn’t Collapse’

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed circulating social media claims suggesting he collapsed at an event last week.

Addressing the rumors on Thursday after inspecting four ongoing projects in the FCT, including the International Conference Centre in Abuja, Wike described them as politically motivated fabrications aimed at discrediting him.

The former Rivers State governor stated that the speculation was orchestrated to divert attention from the recent revelations by the former Rivers Head of Service, George Nwaeke, regarding the explosion at the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“I don’t want to give credence to people who thrive on spreading falsehoods. First of all, I’m human; only a human being can collapse, not a ghost. But, unfortunately, I did not collapse,” Wike stated.

The minister reaffirmed his dedication to executing President Bola Tinubu’s development agenda for the FCT.

Hobnob News reports that the rumors, which gained traction on social media platform X, alleged that Wike had collapsed at an event in Abuja last Friday and was flown abroad for treatment. However, the minister made a public appearance two days later, joining other dignitaries on a Sallah homage to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where he appeared in high spirits.

His media aide, Lere Olayinka, also dismissed the claims as baseless, emphasizing that there was no truth to the reports.
