The Delta State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation following the murder of a site engineer, Chigozie Udalor, allegedly at the hands of his employees after they discovered a significant sum of money in his account.
According to a statement from the police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the case was first reported on December 12, 2024, by Hyacinth Nnalue, who informed the Akwu-kwu Igbo Police Division that his cousin, Chigozie Udalor, had been missing since December 10. Udalor was the site manager at a fish pond in the Bod Camp area of Akwukwu Igbo community.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) launched an investigation before transferring the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department. Acting on directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the DPO of Ekpan Division, CSP Aliyu Shaba, initiated a forensic and intelligence-led investigation. This led to the arrest of a suspect, David Tacho, on March 31, 2025, after he attempted to withdraw money from the victim’s account using his phone. Another suspect, Daniel Orshio, who was allegedly involved in the murder, was also apprehended.
Investigations revealed that David Tacho’s brother, Victor Tacho, along with Pius Daniel (both currently at large), conspired with Daniel Orshio to commit the crime. The suspects, who were employed by the victim, discovered his financial status, lured him to a location, and fatally struck him with a hammer before burying his body in a shallow grave at the site.
The remains of the deceased have since been exhumed and are awaiting autopsy. Meanwhile, police efforts are underway to apprehend the two fugitives, Pius Daniel and Victor Tacho.
The Delta State Police Command has assured the public that all suspects will be brought to justice as investigations continue.
