APC Extends Benue Caretaker Committee’s Tenure by Six Months

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended the tenure of the Benue State Caretaker Committee for another six months following the expiration of its initial term in February.

The reappointment letters were presented to committee members on Friday by the committee chairman, Dr. Benjamin Omale, at the APC state secretariat in Makurdi. The letters, signed by APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola, reaffirmed the committee’s mandate to continue overseeing party affairs in the state.

Reacting to the development, Dr. Omale expressed gratitude to the APC national leadership for its role in stabilizing the party in Benue. He recalled that the NWC intervened in the state’s internal party crisis by involving key stakeholders, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and Governor Hyacinth Alia, who were instrumental in the formation of the seven-member caretaker committee.

Dr. Omale also criticized the former state chairman, Austin Agada, for allegedly attempting to impose himself as the party’s leader despite the committee’s formation. He warned Agada against such actions, stating that any efforts to destabilize the party or Governor Alia’s administration would not be tolerated.

“The APC under Governor Alia has been delivering on its mandate through infrastructural development, regular payment of salaries and pensions, among many other achievements. Any attempt by individuals or groups to destabilize his government will not be condoned,” Omale said.

The certificate of reappointment was presented to the committee a week after its initial six-month tenure expired. The event was attended by key party stakeholders, including all 23 local government party chairmen and the Commissioner for Power, Transport, and Renewable Energy.

With the extension, the caretaker committee will continue to manage the affairs of the Benue APC for the next six months, as party members await further directives from the national leadership.
