In a bold move to promote fairness and transparency in market transactions, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has unveiled a new standardized measuring bowl, known as ‘Osunwon Imole’, for use in markets across the state.
Speaking at the official launch event in Osogbo on Monday, the Governor, represented by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, emphasized that the introduction of Osunwon Imole aims to eliminate the use of substandard measuring tools that have long caused frustration and losses for both buyers and sellers.
“Many traders, knowingly or unknowingly, have relied on inaccurate measures, which not only result in consumer losses but also erode trust in our marketplaces,” Adeleke noted. “With Osunwon Imole, we are restoring equity in commerce and safeguarding the interests of everyone involved.”
He stressed that standardization is a key driver of economic growth, fostering trust, improving efficiency, and making Osun’s markets more competitive. Adeleke added that adopting Osunwon Imole sends a clear message that his administration is committed to maintaining high standards of quality and integrity in commerce.
“The Osunwon Imole will serve as a reliable and precise measuring tool for traders, ensuring uniformity and boosting confidence in every transaction. This initiative will not only empower individual businesses but also support the broader goal of economic stability and sustainable growth in Osun State,” he said.
Calling on all market leaders, including Iyalojas, Babalojas, and various trader associations, Adeleke urged full cooperation and adoption of the new standard.
Also speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Bunmi Jenyo, assured that the government would rigorously oversee the implementation of the initiative to ensure its success statewide.
