El-Rufai Slams Tinubu’s Administration, Calls for Unity Among Opposition Leaders

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has expressed his disappointment with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that despite initial hopes, the government has “failed woefully” to replicate Tinubu’s achievements in Lagos at the national level.

In an interview with BBC Hausa on Saturday, El-Rufai acknowledged that concerns about Tinubu’s alleged certificate forgery from Chicago State University during the 2023 presidential election were overlooked, as they believed he could transform Nigeria as he did Lagos. However, El-Rufai now admits that this decision was a mistake.

El-Rufai is calling on opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola, to unite under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to salvage the country. He emphasized that this unity is crucial to challenge the ruling party effectively.

Additionally, El-Rufai addressed accusations of betraying former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stating that their past disagreements were based on principle, not personal animosity. He highlighted that he has criticized other leaders, including President Buhari, when he deemed it necessary.

El-Rufai’s comments come at a time when the APC is facing internal divisions, and the opposition is seeking to capitalize on this momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
