The incident occurred in the Upper Mission Extension area of Benin City, and details surrounding the brutal act have left the local community in shock.

According to reports, a viral video surfaced showing residents and police officers taking the body of the deceased, who had sustained machete wounds to her head, from her apartment. The video revealed the gruesome nature of the crime, with the woman’s lifeless body being loaded into a police vehicle.

Eyewitnesses shared their disbelief at the tragedy, noting that the couple had only recently married. A resident, who requested anonymity, expressed shock, stating, I can’t believe what I saw. Imagine being killed by your husband. They are a new couple, and nobody would have expected the woman to suffer that fate.

The spokesperson for the Edo State Police, Moses Yamu, confirmed that the police responded swiftly to a report of the incident around 10:00 pm on Saturday. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Success Izekor’s body lying in a pool of blood with severe machete injuries to her head. The suspect, Kelvin Izekor, was reportedly about to be lynched by an angry mob when police intervened and took him into custody.

Yamu added that the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed dead. He stated, it took serious efforts by the police operatives to pacify the mob, rescue, and take the suspect into custody for investigation.

The State Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, condemned the increasing cases of domestic violence between spouses and assured the public that the investigation into Success Izekor’s death would be thorough. “We will ensure that whoever is found culpable in this crime is dealt with in accordance with the law, Otimenyin said.
