In a decisive counterterrorism operation, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have successfully neutralized several high-profile terrorist commanders and dismantled over 40 hideouts in Zamfara and Sokoto states. The offensive, carried out between February 1 and 10, 2025, marks a significant step in restoring peace and security to the North-West region of Nigeria.
The Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, disclosed the details in a statement on Wednesday. He confirmed that the military eliminated notorious terrorist leaders, including Kachalla Na Faransa, Dogon Bakkwalo, Auta Gobaje, and Dan Mai Dutsi, in fierce battles across Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State, as well as Isa LGA of Sokoto State.
According to Abdullahi, the military successfully dismantled multiple terrorist strongholds, including those in Tungar Fulani, Unguwar Goga, Gangara Hill, and Gidan Maji. These operations led to the recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, effectively preventing further attacks on innocent civilians. Additionally, the military rescued numerous kidnapped victims, providing much-needed relief to affected families.
Reaffirming the military’s unwavering commitment to counterterrorism efforts in the North-West and parts of Niger State, Abdullahi urged citizens to provide intelligence on fleeing terrorists, including the notorious Bello Turji and his associates. He assured that all information shared would be handled with the utmost confidentiality.
“With this latest success, Operation Fansan Yamma has significantly weakened terrorist operations in the region, further strengthening ongoing efforts to restore stability and security in northwestern Nigeria,” he added.
