The Kano State House of Assembly has taken a significant step towards enhancing security in the state by passing a bill to establish its own security outfit, known as the Kano State Neighborhood Security Corps. This development comes after extensive deliberations on key provisions of the bill, including a controversial clause that prohibits members of political parties from heading the security agency.
The new security outfit will have the authority to bear arms, make arrests, prevent crimes, and apprehend offenders across Kano State. Majority Leader of the House, Lawan Husaini Dala, emphasized that the legislative body conducted a thorough review of the bill to ensure it serves the best interests of all sectors in the state.
Dala assured that the leadership of the security outfit will be entrusted to a non-partisan indigene of the state, in accordance with the law. “The law empowers the security personnel to bear arms, make arrests, prevent crimes, and apprehend offenders across Kano State,” he said.
The establishment of the Kano State Neighborhood Security Corps is seen as a crucial step in addressing the security challenges facing the state. The new outfit is expected to complement the efforts of other security agencies in maintaining law and order in Kano State.
