In a daring operation, Nigerian Army troops have captured 23 bandits, including four women, and killed one terrorist in Taraba State, Northeast Nigeria. The bandits were reportedly harboured by a local chief, who allegedly received N1.5 million and provided a hideout for the terrorists.
According to Captain Oni Olubodunde, spokesperson for the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Jalingo, the terrorists relocated from Plateau State and were received and settled by the village head of Amar, Karim Lamido. The troops conducted a fighting patrol to the identified hideout, where they were met with resistance from the bandits.
In the ensuing firefight, one bandit was neutralized, while 23 others surrendered without further resistance. A comprehensive search of the camp led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including four AK-47 rifles, five AK-47 rifle magazines, and other firearms.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the bandits had paid the local chief N1.5 million to acquire and establish their camp in the area. The Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to the security and stability of Taraba State and its environs.
The operation is a testament to the Nigerian Army’s resolve to eliminate criminal elements and restore lasting peace in the region. The Army has pledged to continue working tirelessly with relevant stakeholders to sustain the fight against insecurity.
