A group of armed men, believed to be herders, have been accused of breaking into private hostels at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. The assailants allegedly stole phones and other valuables, and killed at least two individuals during the invasion.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspected herders invaded communities around the Stadium Area of Ogbomoso town last Monday, burgling many hotels accommodating thousands of LAUTECH students. The students reported that the assailants broke into rooms, taking away expensive phones, gadgets, and other belongings.
The attackers were said to be armed with guns and machetes, and multiple sources confirmed that at least two people were killed during the invasion. Several students were also beaten and hospitalized.
A student who spoke to SaharaReporters described the incident, saying, “They only robbed the first and second buildings. They collected phones and some other things. As they collected phones, they were also collecting passwords.”
Another source stated, “Fulani herdsmen came around a hostel close to the Stadium area in Ogbomoso last week. But fortunately, I was not in the hostel. They burgled our hostel but did not injure anybody. They only collected phones from people.”
The incident has sparked widespread concern among students and netizens, who have taken to social media to demand improved security measures in the area.
