Alaafin of Oyo Dissolves Unauthorized Coronation Committee, Issues Strict Warning

The newly installed Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Owode I, has taken decisive action by dissolving an unauthorised coronation committee allegedly established without his consent. The monarch made this announcement on Wednesday from Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, emphasizing that any further activities related to the disbanded committee would be considered illegal and met with stern consequences.

In a strongly worded statement titled “Coronation Committee Setup in Oyo Town—Notice of Cease & Desist,” Oba Owode I underscored the necessity of following proper protocols and respecting the authority of his office. He made it clear that any committee or event relating to his coronation must first receive official approval before any form of deliberation or execution.

Unauthorized Activities Will Not Be Tolerated

The statement reads in part: “Let it be known to all that any committee or activity established without the prior consent and approval of His Imperial Majesty and his office shall be considered unauthorised and will not be permitted to exist.” The monarch further demanded that all individuals involved in the committee immediately halt their engagements and refrain from further discussions or plans regarding the coronation.

Official Channels for Coronation Affairs

Oba Owode I went on to clarify that any fundraising efforts or arrangements associated with the upcoming coronation will be handled strictly by the royal family. The palace will oversee the formation of any official committee should the need arise, ensuring that all processes are conducted in alignment with tradition and royal protocol.

“The public and the organisers of this so-called coronation committee are hereby notified that no approval or consent has been granted by the Alaafin, Oba Abimbola Owode I. Thus, all discussions on this matter must cease at once,” the monarch reiterated.

Appreciation and Call for Cooperation

Despite the firm stance against the unauthorised committee, Oba Owode I acknowledged the efforts of those who may have had good intentions in forming it. However, he stressed that all initiatives related to the coronation must be formally sanctioned by the royal office before being publicized or acted upon.

“We appreciate the enthusiasm and goodwill of those who wish to contribute to the success of this historic occasion. However, the royal family will communicate the necessary steps regarding the coronation at the appropriate time. Any contributions, support, or involvement must go through the proper channels as designated by the palace,” the statement added.

The development underscores the Alaafin’s commitment to upholding the integrity of traditional institutions and ensuring that his ascension follows due process without external interference. The royal family has assured the people of Oyo that updates regarding the coronation ceremony will be made available in due course through official palace channels.

As preparations for the historic event continue, all parties are urged to align their efforts with the directives of the palace to foster unity and a seamless transition into a new era of leadership in the Oyo Kingdom.
