Edo: Shaibu’s Impersonation Case Against Omobayo Adjourned to March 2025

The impersonation case against Marvellous Godwins Omobayo, appointed as Edo Deputy Governor by former Governor Godwin Obaseki after the impeachment of Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has been adjourned to March 11, 2025.

The adjournment followed the appearance of the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Samson Osagie, who informed the court that the government had disengaged Omobayo’s legal team, led by Ken Mozia, SAN, and others.

Dr. Osagie stated that since assuming office two months ago, he had not been briefed on the matter. Consequently, as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, he decided to take over the case.

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had previously ruled that Shaibu’s impeachment was null and void.

After being denied access to his office by Obaseki, Shaibu sought legal action against Omobayo for contempt. He initially filed Form 48 and later Form 49, accusing Omobayo of contempt of court and impersonation as deputy governor.

Given this development, analysts speculate that Omobayo could face imprisonment in Kuje unless both parties reach an out-of-court settlement.

However, the case has now been adjourned to March 11, 2025, for hearing.
