The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the leader of the party in Rivers State. This was confirmed during a critical consultative meeting held at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
The meeting, conducted behind closed doors, highlighted the Governor’s stabilizing role in the party and celebrated a recent court ruling nullifying contentious congresses that had produced Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron. As a result of the judgment, Hon. Robinson Nname Ewor was appointed as acting state chairman of the PDP.
PDP National Treasurer Ahmed Yayari Mohammed, speaking after the meeting, described it as part of efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 elections. “We appreciate the Governor’s doggedness in stabilizing the PDP in Rivers State. This is part of our broader strategy to ensure that the PDP is ready to take over governance, both at the federal and in more states, come May 2027,” Mohammed stated.
The NWC also reaffirmed support for Sir Ude Okoye, recently reinstated as PDP National Secretary by the Court of Appeal. Mohammed dismissed any legal obstacles to Okoye’s position and called on governors and stakeholders to back his leadership.
This strategic alignment, according to the NWC, is pivotal for uniting the party and ensuring a stronger comeback.
