Wike: We’re Not Your Usual Politicians, FCT Team Delivers on Promises

ABUJA — Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike urged residents of the territory to maintain confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing that the FCT leadership is composed of credible individuals who uphold their commitments.

Speaking at the commissioning of the 5-kilometer Naharati-River Ukya to Unguwan Hausawa Road with its accompanying 2-span bridge and adjoining streets in Abaji, Wike assured residents that the administration is fulfilling its promises.

Delivering on Stakeholders’ Requests

Wike recounted the administration’s engagement with Abaji residents in late 2023, where the community highlighted the road project as a priority. He noted that following the January 2024 flag-off, the project was completed ahead of schedule in November and officially commissioned in January 2025.

“In our stakeholder meeting, we promised to deliver this road and additional police divisions for Abaji’s security needs. Construction of these divisions is ongoing, and we will hand them over in a few months,” Wike said.

He also highlighted ongoing infrastructure development in Abaji University as part of broader efforts to enhance the area.

Commitment Beyond the City

Wike stressed the administration’s balanced development approach, targeting both Abuja’s city center and satellite towns. “We want everyone to see that we are not just focusing on the city but are equally committed to developing satellite communities,” he said.

The minister thanked residents for their support and reiterated the administration’s resolve to fulfill all promises, distinguishing his team from “usual politicians.”

Rural Development for National Growth

Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, emphasized the importance of rural road infrastructure in driving economic growth. “Improved road networks like the Naharati access road enable rural producers to connect to markets, sell goods at fair prices, and access essential services,” she stated.

The week-long project commissioning across FCT area councils underscores the administration’s dedication to equitable development and improving the quality of life for all residents.
