The United States has enacted a ban preventing transgender men from participating in men’s sports and transgender women from competing in women’s sports. This decision was announced by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson in a post on X.
“Today is a great day in America because House Republicans just passed @RepGregSteube’s Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act ensuring men cannot compete in women’s sports,” Johnson wrote.
He added, “Men are men, women are women, and men cannot become women. It’s just that simple.”
This move could mark a return to policies previously set by incoming President Donald Trump, who had implemented a ban on transgender individuals serving in the U.S. military. On July 26, 2017, President Trump announced via Twitter that transgender individuals would no longer be permitted to serve in the military. However, the policy was reversed by the administration of President Joe Biden.
Although it remains unclear how the incoming President, Donald Trump, will address such issues upon taking office, discussions suggest he might consider reinstating the military transgender ban. These ongoing conversations have sparked speculation that the policy could once again be a focus of his administration, though its future remains uncertain.
