A devastating attack by suspected terrorists has left two worshipers dead and two others injured at the Ekklesiyar Yanu’wa a Nigeria Church in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State. The attack, which occurred around 2:10 am on Sunday, also saw the destruction of seven shops and the church auditorium.
ASP Nahum Daso, Police Public Relations Officer for the Borno State Police Command, confirmed the attack and stated that the command has deployed an armed team to restore confidence among residents of the area. Daso noted that the terrorists shot sporadically, killing two people, and injuring Esther Yohanna and Ali Yohanna.
The Chairman of Chibok Local Government, Mustapha Madu, condoled with the families of the bereaved and inspected the damaged properties. The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in the Chibok area, which has been a target of terrorist attacks since the 2014 kidnapping of over 200 schoolgirls.
The police command has assured residents that they are working to build confidence among the people and have directed all human and logistics assets to be deployed to the axis. The attack has sparked concerns about the safety and security of communities in the region.
