DSS Arrests Blogger for Posting Fake Recruitment Notice

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a man accused of cloning the agency’s website to post a fraudulent recruitment notice.

The suspect, 32-year-old Sylvester Victor Augustus, is from Abak Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State. He was tracked and detained on Thursday at his home on Akpan Eno Lane in Abak by DSS operatives. Augustus, who claims to be a graduate of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), works as a blogger and content creator.

The DSS revealed that Augustus cloned their official website and used it to create a false recruitment announcement, seemingly with the intent of defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians. The agency had earlier labeled the notice as “fake” and cautioned the public against falling prey to such fraudulent schemes.

Augustus is set to be arraigned in court soon.
