Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has dismissed rumors that he was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) at his home in Abuja. Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, described the rumors as “falsehood against his person” and stressed that he is currently at his residence in Onitsha, Anambra State .
The rumors, which circulated on social media, claimed that DSS operatives broke into Obi’s residence and took him away to an unknown location. However, Obi took to his X account to debunk the claims, stating that “such fake news on my person has become a pastime for some people” .
Obi’s media adviser, Valentine Obienyem, also released a statement dismissing the rumors as “completely false and baseless” .This is not the first time Obi has been the target of fake news, as similar rumors emerged in September last year claiming that the DSS had invaded his house while he was in Rwanda.
Obi urged the public not to allow baseless rumors to distract them from the critical challenges facing the nation. He expressed gratitude for the concern and support shown by the public and reaffirmed his commitment to the cause of a better Nigeria.
