A suspected bomb explosion occurred at the Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Bwari Area Council, on January 6, 2025, around 11:00 AM, resulting in multiple casualties.
According to the FCT Police Command, “two of the men died in the explosion while tampering with the improvised explosive device (IED) on the school veranda,” while a third man and a female trader suffered severe injuries and are being treated under police guard.
The explosion prompted an immediate response from the police, with operatives and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team dispatched to the scene. “The area was immediately cordoned off to protect residents and facilitate a thorough investigation,” stated the police. Victims were quickly evacuated and transported to a hospital for medical care.
Preliminary investigations revealed that three men from Katsina had visited Mallam Adamu Ashimu, the school’s owner, and are suspected of bringing the explosive device with them. The FCT Bomb Squad confirmed it was an IED explosion, with remnants of the device recovered at the scene.
Mallam Ashimu has been taken into custody for questioning as authorities continue to investigate the incident. The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, urged the public to remain vigilant, adding, “report any suspicious activity, behavior, or items that may resemble improvised explosive devices to the police.”
The FCT Police Command also issued safety advice, urging residents to stay alert, avoid touching suspicious objects, and collaborate with neighbors to maintain safety. Emergency contact numbers were provided for reporting concerns.
