A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Olamide Thomas, the woman accused of threatening President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, as well as the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi. Thomas was arrested and arraigned on December 20 on three counts of allegedly transmitting threatening messages via social media.
The charges alleged that Thomas knowingly transmitted videos on social media, making remarks that placed Seyi Tinubu, Egbetokun, and Adejobi in fear of death or bodily harm. These offenses are punishable under Section 24 (2)(a) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
Justice Emeka Nwite granted Thomas bail in the sum of ₦10 million with one surety in like sum, stating that there was no evidence to suggest she would jump bail or interfere with the trial. The surety must provide an affidavit of means, three years’ tax clearance, and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Thomas pleaded not guilty to all charges during her arraignment and was remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre. The court adjourned the matter to February 18 for trial.
