President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Monday, January 6, 2025, to attend the inauguration of Ghana’s President-elect, John Mahama, scheduled for January 7 in Accra.
John Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017, was re-elected in December 2024 and will succeed outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo.
In a statement, Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson for President Tinubu, revealed that the Nigerian leader’s visit follows an invitation from Mahama, who had earlier visited Nigeria in December. The two leaders share a longstanding personal relationship, which reflects the strong bilateral ties between Nigeria and Ghana.
President Tinubu will attend the ceremony in his capacity as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, alongside other African leaders.
Accompanying President Tinubu on this diplomatic trip will be Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and other senior government officials.
