A wedding in Jigawa State turned tragic when the bride allegedly poisoned food served at the reception, leaving the groom critically ill and one guest dead.
The incident took place in the Jahun Local Government Area of the state. Eyewitnesses told PUNCH Online that the bride’s actions may have been motivated by a personal vendetta.
Speaking on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer for Jigawa State, Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is ongoing.
“We received a report that the bride had tainted the food served at the wedding reception, leaving the groom critically ill,” Adam said.
He added that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, including the bride and another woman. Both are currently in custody and being questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department.
“We will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served,” Adam assured.
According to him, all the wedding attendees who consumed the poisoned food have been treated and discharged from the hospital, except for one individual who was confirmed dead.
“The command is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and we will provide more details as soon as possible,” Adam said.
“For now, we can confirm that the incident occurred, and we are working tirelessly to unravel the facts. We urge the public to remain calm and assured that justice will be served,” he concluded.
Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the deceased, the groom, or the other victims involved in the incident.
