Benue Governor Signs N550bn 2025 Budget, Unveils Decade-Long Development Blueprint

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has officially signed the 2025 budget, valued at N550 billion, into law. The landmark event, held late Monday at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, coincided with the launch of the State’s 10-Year Development Plan, the State Nutrition Policy, and the State Social Protection Policy.

The budget, titled “Human Capital Development, Food Security, and the Digital Economy,” was passed by the State Assembly earlier on December 30, 2024. Governor Alia described the occasion as a transformative moment for the state’s future, signaling a commitment to progress and prosperity.

“The signing of the 2025 budget and the launch of these critical policies mark a new chapter in Benue’s journey. Together, we are laying the foundation for a future where every citizen thrives with dignity and opportunity,” Alia stated.

The governor emphasized the administration’s focus on expanding access to quality education, enhancing healthcare, and promoting lifelong learning. He pledged to equip citizens with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in a rapidly changing world.

Highlighting the digital economy as a core component of the budget, Alia reiterated his commitment to fostering innovation. “This budget dedicates substantial resources to digital transformation, focusing on infrastructure, internet access, and innovation hubs to create jobs, boost entrepreneurship, and enhance digital literacy,” he added.

On the Social Protection Policy, Alia reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to supporting vulnerable populations. The policy aims to provide financial aid, healthcare, education, and job training, reflecting a commitment to inclusive growth and welfare.

Governor Alia expressed gratitude to the Benue State House of Assembly for their cooperation in passing the budget and acknowledged the support of UNICEF in shaping the state’s critical policies.

Speaker Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh presided over the Assembly’s passage of the 2025 appropriation bill during Monday’s plenary, marking a significant milestone in the state’s governance and development agenda.
