Tinubu Approves Federal University for Southern Kaduna; Medical Centre in Kafanchan Under Discussion

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna, marking a transformative step toward meeting the region’s educational and developmental aspirations.

Vice President Kashim Shettima announced this during a condolence visit to the Kukah family over the passing of His Highness Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom, in Kamuru, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The late traditional ruler was a family member of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto.

According to a statement released by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Shettima disclosed that discussions are also underway to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

“With Senator Katung and the member of the House of Representatives, we have reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and he has consented to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna,” the Vice President revealed.

During his remarks, Shettima underscored the administration’s commitment to the development of Southern Kaduna, citing the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as evidence of the President’s focus on addressing the region’s security challenges. “Be assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the people of Kaduna and Southern Kaduna at heart,” he stated.

The Vice President also commended Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for adopting an inclusive governance approach, adding, “Government is about connecting all parts of the state to foster a sense of belonging.” He emphasized the federal government’s intention to collaborate with the state government to address developmental needs, particularly road infrastructure.

Expressing gratitude, Bishop Kukah thanked the Vice President for his visit, highlighting the challenges posed by the area’s poor road conditions. “It took you around three and a half hours to get here. The road is largely broken. I know you will remain a friend of this Ikulu community,” he said.

This landmark development signals the federal government’s increased focus on equitable growth and enhanced infrastructure in Southern Kaduna.
