Obasanjo: Nigeria Destined to Thrive as a Land of Prosperity, Not Hardship

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has reaffirmed his belief in Nigeria’s potential for greatness, describing the country as destined to flourish and prosper. In an exclusive interview with Arise News on Monday, Obasanjo emphasized that while Nigeria is currently facing significant economic challenges, its future is bright and filled with promise.

The elder statesman encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope, urging them to maintain faith in the nation’s ability to overcome adversity. “I am an incurable optimist about Nigeria,” he said. “We have a great country, and I firmly believe that the hardships we are experiencing now are temporary. Sooner rather than later, we will reach the destination God has prepared for us.”

Obasanjo likened Nigeria’s potential to that of a “land flowing with milk and honey,” stressing that this is the vision God has for the nation. He remarked, “Where we are today is not where God wants us to be. He does not intend for Nigeria to remain a desert, a basket case, or a failed state. God wants Nigeria to thrive and flourish, and I am confident that His plans for us will soon materialize.”

The former president acknowledged that the nation’s current struggles have been shaped by the decisions and actions—both intentional and unintentional—of its leaders and citizens. However, he underscored that these challenges are not insurmountable. “We are here because of the choices made by our leaders and, to some extent, the actions of our followers. Nevertheless, I believe in a God of great possibilities, and He has great things in store for Nigeria.”

Obasanjo’s message is a call for unity, resilience, and unwavering optimism among Nigerians. He concluded by expressing his confidence that the country will soon rise above its difficulties, fulfilling its potential as a beacon of hope and prosperity in Africa and beyond.
