The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has unveiled the intricate details behind Uche Secondus’ removal as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking at a PDP event in Rivers State, Wike revealed that his move against Secondus was driven by the latter’s resistance to Siminalayi Fubara’s governorship bid in 2023.
Wike alleged that Secondus had attempted to secure the PDP governorship ticket for his cousin, Tele Ikuru, a decision Wike said he could not support. This, he noted, prompted his active role in Secondus’ ouster from the party leadership.
Reflecting on the ongoing friction with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Wike accused Secondus and former Rivers Governor Celestine Omehia of hypocrisy. He claimed the duo only began supporting Fubara after reaping personal benefits, labeling their loyalty as insincere.
“I recently heard Secondus in Bori, mentioning the Bori Internal Road project I awarded as governor. I paid 50% with the expectation that a governor we all backed would continue the projects,” Wike stated.
He continued, “Secondus claimed his enemies are the governor’s enemies. But who are the real enemies of the governor? Secondus, who initially opposed Fubara’s candidacy in favor of his cousin? I led the charge to remove Secondus as PDP National Chairman when he attempted to impose his cousin as governor. Now, he positions himself as the governor’s ally while painting me as the adversary. To God be the glory,” Wike concluded.
