The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Lagos Council, has commended the Dangote Refinery for its recent reduction in fuel prices, describing it as a crucial economic relief for Nigerians.
Funmi Sessi, the NLC State Chairman, expressed this in a statement on Wednesday, highlighting that the intervention is timely and impactful. According to her, the price adjustment will help reduce transportation costs, lower prices of goods and services, and provide much-needed financial relief for citizens grappling with a high cost of living.
“This adjustment promises significant relief for millions of Nigerians who have been contending with high fuel prices and economic challenges. If not for the Dangote Refinery, fuel importation might still dominate our economy,” Sessi remarked.
She noted that the Dangote Refinery produces approximately 650,000 barrels of petroleum daily, surpassing the combined production of Port Harcourt and other refurbished refineries, which produce around 210,000 barrels daily. This development, she added, fosters healthy competition in the petroleum sector, leading to the observed price reductions.
Sessi also mentioned the refinery’s export of petroleum products to countries like Ghana and Togo, emphasizing its role in stabilizing Nigeria’s currency.
“With this, Dangote Refinery has positively impacted the sector and brought economic stability. We urge the government to encourage Dangote and other emerging players to sustain this momentum,” she added.
Commenting on the proposed 2025 budget, Sessi expressed optimism, stating that strict implementation could lead to economic revival, improved security, and increased food production.
The NLC encouraged stakeholders to emulate the Dangote Group’s efforts for the collective benefit of Nigerians.
