At least seven individuals lost their lives on Sunday when a light aircraft crashed in a densely forested area of Jalisco, western Mexico, local authorities confirmed.
The Cessna 207 plane had been traveling from La Parota in Michoacan, a neighboring state.
Jalisco Civil Protection announced on social media that the crash occurred in a remote and hard-to-reach area.
Preliminary reports from officials at the scene revealed “a preliminary count of seven people dead,” though their identities have not yet been confirmed, the agency stated.
“A fire was extinguished, and risk mitigation was carried out to prevent possible additional damage,” it added.
Forensic investigators are expected to arrive to recover the bodies and verify whether there are any further victims.
