Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved a monthly stipend of N250,000 for traditional rulers in the state.
This announcement was made by the Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Linus Nto Mba, who expressed gratitude to the Governor in a message on Saturday.
Mba, speaking on behalf of the council’s principal officers and members, stated that the payment of the new monthly stipend will begin in December 2024.
He clarified that the N250,000 monthly stipend is separate from the N150,000 Christmas package that Governor Otti recently approved for over 500 traditional rulers in the state.
“The Council is grateful to the Governor for introducing this new monthly stipend, which will be paid to every Eze in Abia State from December 2024, except for the traditional rulers in Aba South, who will receive a different amount,” Mba explained.
He further noted the strong relationship between the traditional institution and the Governor, highlighting that previous administrations had not shown such respect to the monarchs.
Mba assured that traditional rulers would continue to support the Governor in efforts to eliminate criminal elements from communities, ensuring that peace and security prevail across the state. This gesture of support for the Governor reflects the unity and collaboration between the traditional rulers and the state government.
