The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Board has approved the promotion of 4,291 senior officers, as well as the appointment of one Deputy Comptroller-General and eight Assistant Comptroller-Generals. This move aims to fill vacancies created by retiring management team members from various geopolitical zones across the Federation.
Breakdown of Promotions:
1. 80 Deputy Comptrollers* advanced to Customs Comptroller
2. 151 Assistant Comptrollers* promoted to Deputy Comptrollers
3. 612 Chief Superintendents of Customs* promoted to Assistant Comptrollers
4. 641 Superintendents of Customs* promoted to Chief Superintendent of Customs
5. 392 Deputy Superintendents of Customs* promoted to Superintendent of Customs
6. 590 Assistant Superintendents of Customs I* promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Customs
7. 965 Assistant Superintendents of Customs II* promoted to ASC I
8. 860 Inspectors of Customs* promoted to ASC II
Additionally, 16 officers received special promotions for their exceptional performance. The board also approved a posthumous promotion for the late Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Etop Essien.
The NCS Board announced a strategic restructuring initiative, transferring the Post Clearance Audit Unit from the Tariff and Trade Department to the Office of the Comptroller-General. This unit will now be headed by an Assistant Comptroller General, ensuring stronger oversight and increased efficiency.
Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi congratulated the newly promoted, appointed, and retained officers, urging them to remain committed to the service’s core mandates and pursue excellence.
