A devastating midnight fire has claimed the lives of a husband and wife in Rangaza (Inken) Layin AU, located in the Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State. The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident, identifying the victims as 67-year-old Muhammed Uba and his 52-year-old wife, Fatima.
In a statement released on Friday by the Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, the Director of the Service, Hassan Muhammad, provided details of the tragic event. According to Muhammad, the inferno broke out shortly after midnight on Thursday, December 12.
“We received a distress call at approximately 1:45 a.m. from one of our staff, Ahmad Abubakar, and immediately dispatched our rescue team to the scene at 1:51 a.m.,” he said.
The fire engulfed a bungalow measuring 50 by 25 feet, which served as the couple’s residence. The blaze consumed two rooms within the building, trapping the victims inside. Despite prompt intervention by the rescue team, both individuals were found unconscious, with burns on parts of their bodies.
Muhammad explained that their efforts to revive the couple were unsuccessful. The victims’ remains were subsequently handed over to the ward head of Rangaza, Muhammad Rayyanu.
He further revealed that the cause of the fire is still under investigation. “We are working diligently to determine what led to this unfortunate incident,” he added.
The Kano State Fire Service used the opportunity to urge the public to adhere strictly to safety guidelines and fire prevention measures to avoid such tragedies.
As the investigation continues, the Rangaza community mourns the loss of two of its residents. The incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of fire safety and the need for vigilance, particularly during the harmattan season when fire outbreaks are more common.
This tragedy has left many in shock and underscores the critical role of timely safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
