The Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has started refunding N75,617,040 to 1,238 pilgrims who participated in the 2023 Hajj. The refund is for services that were not fully rendered during the exercise in Saudi Arabia.
According to Ajibola Taiwo, Executive Secretary of the Board, each of the affected pilgrims will receive N61,080. Taiwo stated that the National Hajj Commission has already released the funds for onward disbursement to the affected pilgrims.
The refund is a welcome development for the pilgrims, who had paid for services that were not fully provided. Two of the beneficiaries, Fatimo Toriola and Oladapo Jelili, expressed their gratitude to the State Government for the timely refund. They described the refund as unexpected and a testament to the exceptional efforts of the state government towards their welfare during the 2023 Hajj exercise.
This move by the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of its citizens, even in the face of challenges.
