Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has ordered the immediate arrest of civil servants caught selling materials intended for Primary Health Care centres and general hospitals in the state.
In a viral video, Governor Nwifuru was visibly shocked upon discovering the items, meant to be distributed free of charge, being sold by government officials.
Commenting on the incident, the Special Assistant on New Media, Mr. Leo Oketa, explained, “Earlier today, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru was out on inspection of projects. While still within the Centenary City premises, he instinctively requested his convoy to reverse into the State Ministry of Health block when he sighted a vehicle loading up some materials.”
“Surprisingly, he saw the vehicle loading up for sale, relevant materials meant for the Primary Health Care centres and general hospitals in the State,” Mr. Oketa added.
The incident highlights ongoing challenges in ensuring transparency and accountability within public service, as the Governor expressed his dismay and vowed to take decisive action against those involved.
