In a major shake-up, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the dissolution of the governing councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions, effective immediately. This move is part of the governor’s efforts to reform the education sector and ensure effective governance.
The dissolution affects all state-owned tertiary institutions, and affected members are required to hand over government properties to their respective institution heads. This decision is aimed at repositioning the institutions for better performance and accountability.
In addition to the dissolution of governing councils, Governor Okpebholo has also approved the disengagement of the management staff of Edo Specialist Hospital and Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin City, with immediate effect.The management staff are expected to hand over government properties to the most senior officer in their respective institutions.
Senator Monday Okpebholo, a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), was declared the winner of the Edo state gubernatorial election by INEC. He has a background in business administration and policy and leadership studies. Before becoming governor, Okpebholo served as a senator representing Edo Central senatorial district.
This development is the latest in a series of reforms initiated by Governor Okpebholo, who had earlier dissolved executives of all Boards, Agencies, and Parastatals in Edo State Public Service. The governor’s focus on economic reform, foreign investment, and infrastructure development is expected to bring stability and growth to Edo State.
