Controversial Nigerian crossdresser, Idris “Bobrisky” Okuneye, has filed a lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Assembly, alleging that they violated his fundamental rights. The lawsuit stems from an audio recording leaked by social media influencer Martins “VDM” Otse, which claimed that Bobrisky paid the EFCC ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.
Bobrisky denied the authenticity of the recording and threatened legal action against VDM ² ³ ⁴ ⁵. Despite his denial, the House of Representatives launched an investigation into the alleged bribery, summoning Bobrisky, VDM, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyode, and Nigeria Correctional Center (NCoS) officials to testify.
The audio recording alleged that Bobrisky served his six-month jail term in a private apartment and that singer Falz and his father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, approached him for an ₦10 million presidential pardon. Bobrisky claimed that the recording was artificially generated to tarnish his reputation.
In the lawsuit, Bobrisky alleged that the National Assembly summoned him for investigation based on the unverified WhatsApp voice call leaked by VDM, without investigating the audio’s authenticity. He claimed that this caused him significant emotional trauma, violated his rights, and subjected him to ridicule and threats.
Bobrisky is seeking ₦200 million from the EFCC for “psychotic trauma” and ₦1 billion from the National Assembly for the “violation of his right to a fair hearing”. He also shared a court filing dated October 10 on his Instagram, prohibiting the EFCC and National Assembly from harassing, detaining, or declaring him wanted.
This development is the latest in the ongoing controversy surrounding Bobrisky’s alleged involvement in money laundering and bribery.
