Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Fred Itua as his Chief Press Secretary (CPS) — his first official appointment ahead of the upcoming power transition from Governor Godwin Obaseki. This announcement was made on Monday by Okpebholo’s media team in Abuja, just a day before his scheduled inauguration.
Itua is a seasoned journalist and media strategist, having gained extensive experience at Leadership and The Sun newspapers, where he covered critical sectors such as the National Assembly, health, anti-corruption, migration, and environmental issues. Known for his insightful reporting and deep understanding of Nigeria’s media landscape, Itua is expected to play a crucial role in managing the governor’s communications and public engagement efforts.
Educationally, Itua is well-qualified for this role. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from Ambrose Alli University, a Master’s in Media Arts from the University of Abuja, and is completing a PhD in Development Communication at Veritas University, Abuja. This academic expertise, coupled with his hands-on journalism experience, equips him to help Okpebholo’s administration communicate effectively with the public and navigate complex media challenges.
Itua is also known for his dedication to continuous learning and multicultural collaboration. His innovative approach to leadership in diverse environments is expected to support Okpebholo’s administration in implementing its agenda while maintaining open communication with Edo State’s citizens.
