A devastating crime has shaken the community of Kwacham in Mubi North Local Government Area, Adamawa State, Nigeria. 19-year-old Aliyu Yaro allegedly strangled his three-day-old child and buried the remains in a shallow grave.
According to the police, Yaro stole the baby from his lover, Safiya, and committed the heinous act due to economic hardship and fear of family responsibility. Safiya had reportedly pressured Yaro to provide upkeep for her and the newborn.
Adamawa State Police Command’s SP Suleiman Nguroje confirmed the arrest, stating, “The suspect narrated that he committed the crime due to the pressure from the mother to carry the baby.”
This tragic incident highlights the desperate need for support systems and resources for young parents struggling with economic hardship and family responsibilities.
