Dr. Dennis Osahon Aikoriogie Edoimioya, a devoted advocate for democracy, has made significant contributions to Edo State’s political landscape.
Born into the esteemed Edoimioya-Iyase Family in Uselu Egor quarters, Dr Dennis Osahon’s entry into politics began when he supported the second term election of Governor Godwin Obaseki, playing a very significant role in his re-election.
He along with his associates, formed a Diaspora group, playing a pivotal role in galvanizing support that culminated in a landslide victory for Peter Obi and LP in Edo State.
He continued as a dedicated Labour Party member, contributing significantly in cash and kind before concerned citizens urged him to contest the gubernatorial election under the party.
Dr. Osahon’s campaign team engaged with party faithfuls in the wards and towns across the three senatorial districts soliciting support from delegates.
However, the monetization of the party’s ticket prompted his transition to the National Rescue Movement (NRM).
His foray into the NRM was not without challenges. Having won the party primaries, he had to overcome obstacles to be recognized as the legitimate candidate.
Some NRM dissidents, apparently sponsored, concocted a parallel primary without a candidate to thwart his ambition, leading INEC to initially exclude his name and party from the list of candidates.
Dr. Osahon successfully contested this decision, now, making history as the only candidate on the ballot after the Court of Appeal judgment.
He has a strong pre-election case against INEC at the election tribunal sitting in Benin with precedents from decided Nigerian cases, for not uploading his name and denying him adequate time to prepare, campaign, and have polling and collation agents but has decided not to proceed to the election tribunal.
Despite this, Dr. Osahon supported the APC Candidate and now Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, collapsed his structure and campaigned to align with his gubernatorial aspirations.
By doing so, he prioritized principles over potential monetary gain from the prospect of winning the suit against INEC at the tribunal.
Throughout his journey, Dr. Osahon demonstrated unwavering commitment to democracy and Edo State citizens’ well-being.
His humanitarian efforts before, during and after his entry into politics include:
– Medical outreaches to constituents
– Empowerment of widows and youths
– Celebrating orphans during Christmas
His legacy testifies to his dedication to Edo State and Nigeria’s democratic progress, showcasing his commitment to entrenching democracy and good governance.
Dr. Osahon’s unwavering commitment and resolute stand have established him as a beacon of hope, shining a light on the principles of justice, fairness, and equity.
His unrelenting passion for democracy has earned him recognition as a potential leader for a bigger role in the future.
His dedication to exercising democracy and promoting good governance has garnered appreciation from the people, solidifying his position as a champion of democratic values.
